Welcome to the family, alexalone! 'ALEXALONEWORLD' arrives August 13

Our family continues to grow and we are beyond proud to announce our newest arrival alexalone!

Austin's Alex Peterson (they/them) is the center at alexalone. Known by some as the live bassist for Hovvdy and Lomelda, Alex wears many different hats. Their Polyvinyl debut, ALEXALONEWORLD, lands August 13 and marks their official release as a fully formed act, featuring Sam Jordan (he/him), Mari Rubio (she/her), and Andrew Hulett (he/they).

To herald the announcement, they share the album's lead single and video, "Ruins," set as an old-time video game and created by designers Simon Cassar (he/him) and Karolina Asadova (she/her). The song pairs guitar reverb against Alex’s intimate, soft vocals; the instrument’s echo gives the impression of vast, empty space, with a humble vocalist at its center. “I’m a ruin’ / I’ll get through it” Alex says, with a dramatic pause before finishing the thought: “eventually.” And ‘eventually’ arrives as the volume swells and the guitar shreds, filling the vacant air with melody and presence.

The video, which takes place in a pixelated, Zelda-esque RPG and directed by Alex, was made on a program called RPG Maker by Alex, Karolina and Simon. Using this program, they brought the album artwork to life, filling it with both fictional characters as well as their own IRL friends. Watch below.

It also gives a proper introduction to ALEXALONEWORLD, an album crafted out of the past year’s isolation and its impact on one’s way of thinking. The songwriting itself happened between 2013-2019, while recording began in 2019 and carried over into 2020. Moody, introspective, with bursts of hope and rebelliousness throughout, the album reflects upon the world's injustices and incongruities, influenced by the works of Tolkien, Murakami, and genre disruptors like Low, Boris, and Yo La Tengo. Additionally, alexalone also announces a joint tour with Lomelda slated for Jan/Feb 2022 with tickets on-sale this Friday, May 21. For these performances, members of both ensembles will perform in alexalone as well as Lomelda. Texas forever.
