In 1994, while still in highschool, Matt and Darcie began Polyvinyl Press, a fanzine about the midwest DIY music scene. Within no time they released a 7" to accompany the third edition of the zine. From there they issued Braid's first 7" Rainsnowmatch and a 20-band compilation called Direction —and thus in 1996 Polyvinyl Records was born. Today Polyvinyl remains a 100% independently owned & operated label with over 20 employees and 400 releases from more than 100 artists. The mission of our label has never waivered – we work hard everyday to tell the world about bands we love.
