New York, 1955

Release Date: January 7, 1997

One of Rainer Maria's more haunting offerings, "New York, 1955" features Jennifer Fischer (Kaia's sister) on piano. The song would later appear in a completely different form on the band's first full-length, Past Worn Searching. The B-side, "Up Until This Time," is a rare Rainer track exclusive to the 7".

Originally, Rainer Maria planned to self-release New York, 1955 -- and had already begun to make the handmade covers -- when at the last minute it was decided Polyvinyl Records would release the 7".

As a result of the hurried release schedule, there was never an official Polyvinyl catalog number assigned to the record sleeve. In fact, the catalog number is not even found on the actual record. If you look carefully enough, you will notice that the matrix number on the vinyl reads "RMR-003" as it was Rainer Maria's third release (their original demo cassette was #1 followed by their self-titled EP on Polyvinyl). The covers were hand-stamped by the band, Polyvinyl staffers, and any friends or family members who were unlucky enough to be cajoled into helping.

Although the 7" is long out of print, the songs were re-mastered and released on compact disc as a CD-Single in early 2003 (also now out of print).
