Mates of State/Dear Nora

Release Date: February 18, 2003

While on tour in 2002, Mates of State began playing its excellent rendition of Jackson Browne's "These Days," which is heavily influenced by Nico's version of the song. "These Days" quickly became a live fan favorite and five months later the band found themselves in the studio committing the song to analog.

Dear Nora are longtime tour buddies with the Mates and Katy Davidson does an excellent acoustic take on Bob Dylan's "Girl from the North Country."

The original cover design experienced a number of printing issues. The main problem being the see-thru synthetic paper it was printed on (so that the vinyl color could be viewed through the cover).

The first pressing (600 each of yellow, white, and blue vinyl) unexpectedly sold out before tour's end. The 7" was repressed in March 2003 featuring a more "printer-friendly" die-cut cover.

Reviews

  • Though Mates of State and Dear Nora soundnothing like each other, they’re two complementary sides of the same indie popcoin. Exuberance and contemplation.
