Race

Release Date: May 6, 1997

After the release of Kerosene 454's second full-length, Came By to Kill Me (Slowdime/Dischord), the need to re-issue the band's older material became apparent.

After plenty of planning and hunting for the master tapes, Polyvinyl released Race -- a collection of every Kerosene 454 release prior to Came By to Kill Me. Race compiles the first Kerosene 454 album (Situation at Hand), a host of long-out-of-print 7"s and a couple of unreleased tracks.

Tracks 1-9 originally appeared as Situation at Hand (Kerosene 454's debut CD/LP on Art Monk Construction.)

Tracks 10-11 were previously unreleased.

Tracks 12-13 appeared on the Two for Flinching 7" (Art Monk Construction, 1993).

Track 14 appeared on the Down in Three 7" (Strict Records, 1993).

Reviews

  • A heavy and sonic more abstract punk band ala Drive Like Jehu embraces a more straightforward powerful rock sound such as the middle-aged Dischord Records bands like early Shudder To Think.

    - Epitonic
  • Kerosene 454 is what melodic hardcore should be about - pop songs made impossibly heavy, and loud guitars made incomprehensibly sweet.

    - Hardcore For Nerds
  • Darren Zentek shines on the drums, coming off like the long lost twin brother of Don Caballero's Damon Che.
