For Your Own Special Sweetheart was Jawbox's major label debut for Atlantic Records after releasing their two previous full-lengths on Dischord.
The album was later re-issued by DeSoto Records, a Washington, D.C.-based label run by Jawbox members Bill Bardot and Kim Coletta.
Jawbox frontman J. Robbins has also played in a number of other bands (including Burning Airlines, which released a split with Braid on Polyvinyl) and has recorded albums by numerous more (including the seminal Braid album Frame and Canvas).
