After releasing last year’s critically acclaimed album, Show Me How You Disappear, IAN SWEET’s creative force, Jilian Medford, hasn’t slowed down in the slightest. Following the album’s release, Medford covered Coldplay’s “Yellow” and recreated the song’s iconic music video with remarkable accuracy, which caught the attention of Coldplay themselves who shared it on Twitter. The dance-heavy single, “f*ckthat,” followed soon after, which has since become a fan favorite at shows alongside, “FIGHT,” a huge song full of big, immediate hooks that rivals anything heard on today’s Top 40 pop radio.

On STAR STUFF Medford expands even further on the kaleidoscopic indie pop sound that she has become known for. Taking inspiration from both Sheryl Crow and Cocteau Twins the EP showcases both her craft as a skilled songwriter and her knack for innovative production (look no further than the title track for a great example of both).  The EP also presents a reworked dance remix of "FIGHT" from LA based producers, DAGR, which harkens back to the glory days of Ed Banger style electro funk.

IAN SWEET’s music has been streamed millions of times worldwide and has been featured in publications such as FADER, Stereogum, New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and Pitchfork, who included Show Me How You Disappear in their Best Rock Albums of 2021 list and profiled Medford in a 2021 Rising feature.

Reviews

  • "'FIGHT,' [is] a blissful gust of dream-pop […] a bittersweet delight."

    - FLOOD
  • "If Show Me How You Disappear communicated through catharsis, STAR STUFF does so through rejuvenation… gritty and bright, subconsciously incorporating hyperpop and wall-of-sound sensibilities."

    - The Luna Collective
  • "Already slated to be the break-up song of the summer, 'FIGHT' encapsulates the anger, grief and frustration of trying to fall out of love."

    - Paste
  • "After showing off her experimental side with the vulnerable and electrifying 2021 effort Show Me How You Disappear, Ian Sweet drops a neatly packaged collection of songs with her EP, STAR STUFF. The three-track project (with the addition of a remix) is a dreamy and cathartic effort combining Sweet’s emotionally charged lyrics with bright, percussive beats."
