Welcome to the family, Yumi Zouma!!! Listen to new single "Right Track / Wrong Man"
Dreams do come true! We are elated to welcome one of our favorite bands of the decade, Yumi Zouma, to the Polyvinyl family. The dazzling project is the creative force of Josh Burgess (guitar, vocals), Charlie Ryder (guitar, bass, keys), Christie Simpson (vocals, keys), and Olivia Campion (drums). Originally formed in New Zealand, Yumi Zouma is now spread across the far-flung cities of New York, London, and (enduringly) Christchurch.
As a result, distance has become a recurring theme in their work. Determined to confront isolationism, the band’s new material finds them sticking to their convictions (whether in the face of climate change or a failing relationship) and learning to live in the ambiguity of uncertain times with love and a hint of escapism.
With today's announcement we get to hear new single "Right Track / Wrong Man," a disco-infused & bass-heavy groove that belies the underlying tension –
“‘Right Track / Wrong Man’ comes from a place of uncertainty – of not knowing if you should stay in the comfort of a slightly unfulfilling relationship, or branch out and make the most of the youth you have left; meet new people, go out more, dance, live,” explains Frontwoman Christie Simpson. “As Yumi Zouma we often write songs that we want people to dance to, and that we ourselves would want to dance to – this is our dancefloor anthem to the confusion of living through your twenties.”
Stay tuned for more Yumi Zouma goodness...
