"The joyous celebration of LGBTQ+ life that is MAN ON MAN … is unapologetic and downright fun.” - Consequence of Sound
Boundary-shattering queer rock duo MAN ON MAN has released Provincetown, an ambitious musical statement that unapologetically celebrates queerness by saluting its heroes of the past and gazing fearlessly into the future. Listen below and save when you bundle your copy of the limited edition Mellow Yellow vinyl with any item in the Provincetown merch collection. Drawing inspiration from the titular Cape Cod town, the duo of Faith No More co-founder Roddy Bottum and his partner, guitarist/vocalist Joey Holman, created a record featuring a dizzying array of sonic stylings, all anchored by fuzz-drenched guitars and inventive synthesizer arrangements that bring a biting yet pop-friendly edge to their already unique sound.
The propulsive disco-grunge album opener "Take It From Me" pays homage to a bygone era of queer joy while lead single "Showgirls" adopts a classic punk energy that asks listeners to submit to the beautiful spontaneous moments that stick with us for our whole lives. "Piggy" is a rumination on hookup app-culture while live staple "Gloryhole" applies noisy shoegaze textures to Holman’s heartbreaking lyrics that address the commodification of modern queer culture. The brooding "Hush" provides a thrilling conclusion to the LP, and features guitar work from the legendary J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr who plugged his vintage Grestch axe directly into the soundboard to deliver the track’s distinct lead lines and crushing drone.
Provincetown is not only the sound of MAN ON MAN stepping fully into their shared lives as lovers and creators, but also into their role as two singing seers of a current American concern—the ability to exist as yourself, to love who you love how you love them, with self-respect and dignity intact. And, of course, to have fun doing it.
