It's a sin not to love Shy Boys. You heard it here first. Today KC's finest share the second single off their forthcoming album, Bell House. Watch the official music video for "Evil Sin" below or make your way over to NPR's All Songs Considered, who dubbed the track "a layered, a cappella choir piece... bright, jangly pop.”
Directed and conceptualized by band member Kyle Little, "Evil Sin" was a hometown family affair –
My goal with this video was to make something that was playful but had a sinister undercurrent running through it. I wanted to make something that featured the band in a way that we could all be ourselves and have fun doing it. We know ourselves well enough to know that a video of us trying to look cool or act like rockstars isn't probably gonna work for us. Alec and I spent a week and a half building the giant pink Shy Boys sign in the opening shot. We shot that whole scene at the theater of a local community college. The robes were borrowed from the church that Kyle and Collin went to growing up.
Collin Rausch expounds on his inspiration while writing the track:
""Evil Sin" was more or less a melody for a long time that I had when I was driving the van on tour. It had this spiritual quality to it, it reminded me of a hymn from when I was going to church and I kinda latched on to that feeling. When it came time to write the songs for Bell House I wanted to make something that felt spiritual in a way that the Beach Boys and the Zombies were writing spiritual music in the '60's for the pop world. Our bass player/drummer Konnor wrote the lyrics for the record about a buddy of his who essentially robbed him and tried to patch things up, but there would never be that trust; it's still an evil sin, if you want to be my friend, don't ever lie again."
