Happy Friday, time to quietly weep.
Owen has shared an official music video for "I Should've Known", from this year’s new album The Avalanche, the latest entry in the long running solo efforts of Mike Kinsella. The record won praise from Pitchfork as Kinsella’s "most objectively gorgeous record as Owen," and AV Club deemed the album "some of the outfit’s most immersive storytelling to date."
The video for "I Should've Known" was directed by long time visual collaborator Chris Strong who says "the video is about a relationship dissolving," with an opening shot showing the character in the process of moving out and leaving his former home. The shoes featured in the imagery "are meant to represent the memory and spirit of that former life."
"I'm always so excited to work with Chris Strong," says Kinsella, "because I feel like he effortlessly succeeds at visually accomplishing what I'm always trying so hard to accomplish with my music. Whatever the tone - whether it be poignant, or irreverent, or earnest, or self-reflexive - it's always draped in beauty. It's undeniably aesthetically pleasing."
