Post Animal return! Forward Motion Godyssey, a richly layered experience primed to leave its audience indelibly transported, swings into orbit February 14th. With its maximalist arrangements and larger-than-life scale, the band's sophomore album came to life in a fittingly majestic location: a mountain-adjacent home in Big Sky, Montana. Written in eight days and co-produced by the band’s Dalton Allison and collaborator Adam Thein, Forward Motion Godyssey finds Post Animal endlessly shapeshifting as they explore new sonic touchstones and expand on their psych-rock origins. Pre-order your copy now from the Polyvinyl Store.

Following the previously released "Safe or Not (Extended Mix)," the band’s synth-heavy second single "Schedule" is out today via The FADER. “We wrote a song so pop it’s not pop,” the band explains. “It’s what the original idea deserved. Now, using the melody as a vehicle, take in the lyrics, forge your own path as you gain perspective from the genuine, heartfelt message penned from within Post Animal.”

Forward Motion Godyssey unfolds with a frenetic momentum, mercurial and unhinged and gloriously volatile. In a bold leap forward both artistically and sonically, the Chicago-based alt-prog band sets their existential questioning to a wildly kinetic sound, mining inspiration from genres as divergent as electronic and psych-rock and—at one particularly sublime point—achieving both stoner-metal brutishness and dreamy R&B elegance in the very same instant.
Now a five-piece (co-founder Joe Keery has since taken a key role on Stranger Things and left the lineup, though he continues to collaborate with his former bandmates in various side projects as time permits), Post Animal is deeply rooted in brotherhood, dating back to a near-lifelong friendship between Allison and Matt Williams. The band’s profound closeness is evident across the entire record, from their undeniable musical chemistry and their most emotionally revealing lyrics yet, making this a gracefully complex and cohesive record which rewards with every listen.
Post Animal are currently wrapping up a North American tour with Twin Peaks, and will open for Cage The Elephant in the UK/EU early next year. See below to find a show near you, and get your tickets now.
