Phantastic Ferniture have shared the second song from their upcoming full-length with a video both visually stunning and humorously whimsical. Consequence of Sound premiered "Gap Year" today – "As its name suggests, the rollicking and sweeping number seems to inspires listeners to loosen up, leave their comfort zones, and venture off in pursuit of self-discovery — something Jacklin and company have done themselves with Phantastic Ferniture." Read about the band's inspirations behind the song in the full feature – hint: Thelma & Louise and Kyle Minoque. Win Win.
The band's Elizabeth Hughes explains: “This song is about just doing what you need to do, with no expectation of any kind of return. It's about trusting your instincts and not seeking validation ...Julia and I are performing our hearts out to absolutely no one at one ...The lack of audience doesn't dull our enthusiasm, and we know our companionship and community will be enough of a reward. It's poignant because we grew up in the mountains, both desperate for a stage.”
The delightfully lighthearted project of Julia Jacklin, Elizabeth Hughes and Ryan K Brennan will release their self-titled album on July 27. Today's track follows the equally enchanting "Fuckin 'n' Rollin."
Hop on that dancing Phan Fern train!
