Los Angeles songsmith & generally famous person, Chris Farren, returns with his newest single – the glimmering and hopeful "FALL IN LOVE2NIGHT". The double A-side single is available for pre-order on 7-inch vinyl (out November 20), backed with the pensive pop of "Phantom Friend," originally released earlier this year. To celebrate this special occasion Chris designed a "foxy" t-shirt for PV – snag one today, 20% of proceeds will be donated to the Illinois Conservation Foundation.
Beloved for his wry persona and occasionally self-deprecating lyricism, Farren's singular view into the world of interpersonal relationships perhaps answers the *what if* scenario of Stephin Merritt and Conor Oberst forming a power pop band. Even at his most shielded, Farren artfully asserts his songcraft as a vehicle for mining the universal themes of love, loss, self-doubt, and whatever else is usually on his mind.
“What if we could fall in love tonight, dream away the nightmares?" asks Farren, wistfully splitting at the seams with nervous energy on his latest track.
Farren shared – "‘FALL IN LOVE2NIGHT’ came from a batch of songs I wrote in June, when Jeff Rosenstock and I challenged each other to write a bunch of songs in a month and then share them with each other. Up until then, I had been sighing through my days in quarantine, waiting. This project, though small in scope, gave me a sense of purpose that I have more-or-less been able to carry with me the last few months. On its surface it’s a love song, but to me it’s about a search for inclusivity and passion in a rapidly changing world."
The announce of FALL IN LOVE2NIGHT / PHANTOM FRIEND arrives only a few days following the ! one year anniversary ! of Farren’s Polyvinyl debut, Born Hot – named one of the best albums of 2019 by The Atlantic, and the catalyst for quite possibly one of the finest album campaign billboards ever paid for.
