Last month Australian singer/songwriter Julia Jacklin announced her highly anticipated new album PRE PLEASURE – out August 26 – with the stirring "Lydia Wears A Cross". Today we hear her latest single – an instant classic, "I Was Neon". The track is buoyed by steady guitars and a driving rhythm section, a rock-pop anthem with sharp lyrics.

Julia shares – “I first wrote ‘I was neon’ for a band called rattlesnack, a short-lived much loved 2019 side project that I played drums in. I rewrote it for my album in Montreal, during a time when I was desperately longing for a version of myself that I feared was gone forever. I was thinking of this song when I made the album cover, this song is the album cover really.”  Watch the self-directed video below.

A masterclass in songwriting, PRE PLEASURE cements Julia's status as one of the most important songwriters of her time. Pre-order an exclusive Early Bird vinyl on Cloudy Magenta (limited to 1500) from the Polyvinyl Store
