Real Recognize Real.
Today Anamanaguchi releases the perfect conclusion to their summer-long (and a little extra) singles series – a gorgeously wistful cover of American Football's "Stay Home," from their PV labelmates’ eponymous 1999 album. Anamanaguchi first performed their instrumental version of "Stay Home" earlier this year when the two bands collaborated on Nether Meant, a virtual music festival held within Minecraft that raised money for COVID-19 relief efforts.
“We love American Football and all have some personal attachment to this record,” said Anamanaguchi’s Luke Silas, “but ‘Stay Home’ in particular has a lasting meaning that feels open to interpretation as one grows; it is about acknowledging the realities of the world, and understanding when to take a step back for one’s own wellbeing. If things are too much, you can feel comfortable staying home.”
The Summer Singles series was originally conceived even before Anamanaguchi's international tour (in support of their celebrated 2019 album [USA]) was postponed. The series has also been a place for great experimentation. There are ecstatic pop moments like "Kei," featuring the J-pop singer POCHI, and the summery funk of “Everyday, Everynight,” with PC Music’s Planet 1999. Anamanaguchi's wide-ranging remix of Porter Robinson's "Get Your Wish" is, at moments, intensely peaceful and absolutely chaotic. The series' penultimate track "Jaime" features Jaime Brooks, in an emotional masterpiece that, for FADER, rightfully evoked “blossoms from pixellated soil.”
Don't forget to nab the Anamanaguchi vinyl reissues, featuring physical copies of their debut album, Dawn Metropolis (remastered for vinyl) as well as the band's debut EP, Power Supply, on vinyl for the first time.
